It is with deep regret but a certain degree of resignation that the European Squash Federation (ESF) and Scottish Squash have announced the 2021 European Masters Individual Championships, scheduled to take place in Edinburgh from 16-19 June, has been postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
However, we are pleased to confirm that ESF and Scottish Squash have agreed that the event will now take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, next summer (2022) and specific dates will be announced in due course.
This major event traditionally attracts more than 400 players from across Europe who compete in 16 different age categories, ranging from the men and women’s over 35 age group to those over 75.
Maggie Still, Scottish Squash Chief Executive, said: “This is a decision that we have not taken lightly and is one that has been made with the highest regard for public health.
“Unfortunately the ongoing pandemic and the associated restrictions on international travel have made the existing event dates untenable.
“The health and safety of athletes, spectators and all those involved with this prestigious competition remains of paramount importance to Scottish Squash and sport in Scotland.
“Moving the Championships to 2022 gives us the best possible opportunity to deliver an event which ensures even more players and spectators from all across Europe can to be reunited with friends in a safe and competitive environment.
“Our focus now turns to ensuring the event takes place in Edinburgh next year, providing a spectacular showcase for squash.”
